Tip #3:  Shop & Support Local Businesses!

At Amelia Biscuit Company we firmly believe in supporting small business and shopping local.  All the ingredients we use for our yummy treats, both Bakery Style and Treaty Bites varieties, are bought from local providers.  In fact all of our ingredients except bananas and lobsters are grown within a 100-mile radius of the bakery (and most come from farmer's markets). Shopping local supports the economy we live in, builds our communities, and it's an environmentally friendly and sustainable form of consumerism.  When it concerns food, shopping local means you get the healthiest and freshest fruits, veggies and meats, you connect with the natural growing seasons of your region, and it's all tracable (i.e., you can find out where it was grown or raised, and be an informed consumer).

But there's more to local shopping than food, there's handmade items!!  We try our best at Amelia Biscuit to support local businesses, and especially women in business, but one company in particular we adore is Peachy Keen Pets, based in Toronto.  Rosie, our Boston Terrier biscuit girl intern, and her best Boston buddies, Bella and Benny, all wear PKP hoodies, collars, leashes, harnesses and neck/bow ties. They are made of all-cotton materials and come in a huge variety of fun prints:  everything from superheroes, stripes and polka dots, hearts, sushi rolls, Big Bang Theory, sock monkeys, ninjas, Star Wars, and Cat in The Hat.  You can get PKP gear for just about every season, holiday, or event - Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, birthday party, wedding, the new season of Dr. Who!  Possibilities are as endless as the fabrics available!! Oh and best yet, they are all washable, fully adjustable, and great for the dog with sensitive skin.

The mastermind of PKP is creative genius Niki Geroni-Lajoie, a lady who passionately believes that function and fashion are forever together for your dog (or cat or pig), and she is a big supporter of dog rescues too, specfically Pugalug and BTRC. You'll often see pics of her sweet Pug models - Miso, Luke and Leia - showing off new and exciting PKP items.  She's a business lady after our own hearts and a very good friend too!

Because we want to encourage everyone to shop local small business, we are offering a very special promo!!  Starting today, if you place an order from the PKP website or through Niki personally online (i.e., through her Peachy Keen Pets FaceBook Page ) you will receive a free Amelia Biscuit Maple & Lobster Maple Leaf Treat with your order!! Your pup can look good AND eat good treats!  This promo runs until the treats are all gone, so don't delay, and is only available for Canadian residents. And if your dog gets hooked on this flavour, no worries -- this fall it will become a Treaty Bites flavour you can buy all year round.

Maple & Lobster Maple Leaf Treat Ingredients: Organic Spelt Flour, Broth (Water, Lobster, Sweet Potato, Rosemary, Parsley), Eggs, Millet Meal, Scotch Oatmeal, Maple Syrup, Parsley.

At Amelia Biscuit we bake the happy into healthy 'Uniquely Great Canadian' dog treats ... and we want your dog to eat them in style while supporting local small business!!
